ALL work not created by you must be cited in APA format and attached to your work. Obviously, you need to have clear permission to use any found asset (see below). For Citations, add a References page to the FINAL file in Illustrator and InDesign. In Photoshop-only projects, simultaneously send a separate Word Doc or a Pages Doc to the Dropbox link along with the project. Work without necessary accompanying citation documentation will receive a 0. See your syllabus for more information.

Stop stealing images, vectors, and other assets found through Google searches to use in your student and commercial works. Honor the intellectual property of others.

Who knows? One day you too may have some intellectual property you want to protect. Then again, maybe not. After all, if you’ve stolen stuff and printed or posted it in public view, where work lives literally forever, and people can see what you’ve done, what are the odds that you might produce something people might want? And tracing something doesn’t mean you created it, folks. I just call ’em like I see ’em, you thoughtless thieves.

Of course, with unlimited funds, you can buy the images, videos, or other assets you need for any project, but with fees often running into the thousands of dollars for one-time use, for example, this is often impossible. And creating your own assets is often impractical because of time, cost, travel, or equipment restrictions.

So what can you do? Use high-quality FREE assets from established repositories that feature licensing restrictions and state clear guidelines for legal reuse. Check here in the Designer Database, permanently located on the GregJones.co homepage:

Select ⌄ to sort.

Just because you find something here doesn’t mean it’s free to use. You are still responsible for checking the license and complying with any restrictions. Read more about Creative Commons, since most found assets are covered by this license in its various forms, which are not all the same. Some, for example, prohibit derivative works.
